1902 - Lineham No. 1 Waterton Lakes, Alberta

In 1968 the site was designated "the first oil well in Western Canada" by the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada. The discovery was at Cameron Creek in Waterton Lakes National Park. The Rocky Mountain Development Company drilled 309 metres finding oil on September 21, 1902 on the site of well known oil seepages used by aboriginal people.
