Eugene Coste, geological engineer and gas pioneer came from Ontario with a dream of supplying natural gas to Alberta towns. After contracting with the CPR to locate gas reservoirs, his drilling team made the first major discovery in Alberta at Bow Island in 1909, initiating Alberta’s natural gas era. One hundred years ago, in 1912, the pipeline to Calgary was built.
