1914 - Viking No. 1 Viking, Alberta

Edmonton Mayor McNamara strategized with the Edmonton Industrial Association in 1914 to drill for gas in the promising Viking area. In June of that year, the Northern Alberta Natural Gas Company drilled for oil with a rig and on November 4, encountered an immense flow of gas nine million cubic feet per day. In 1923 a pipeline to was built to Edmonton.
