1948 - Redwater No. 1 Redwater, Alberta
1946 was a turning point for Imperial Oil. Then, the discovery of an ancient ocean reef was believed impossible. But in spring of that year, seismic data interpreter Wes Rabey spotted a geological anomaly in the Redwater area. Another Imperial Oil employee noticed a second one in the Leduc area. In early 1947, oil was found there and then, in Redwater the following year.
